PHR/SPHR Study Group Information Meeting

For those interested in participating in a study group to prepare for the national SPHR or PHR certification exams this spring, we will be hosting an informational meeting on Tuesday, February 7 (repeat from Tuesday, January 31) University of Phoenix/Nashville at 6:00 pm for each meeting. The University of Phoenix/Nashville is located at 616 Marriott Drive, Nashville, TN near the Nashville Airport off Briley Parkway and Elm Hill Pike.
There is no cost to attend. The study group will be closed to addtional members on March 6.

We are very excited that The Univeristy of Phoenix has agreed to host this informational gathering. At this meeting, we will discuss study materials required and assign hosts and facilitators. Light refreshments will be available.

Emerging Compliance Issues under GINA, ADAAA, and Related Workers' Compensation Issues
presented by Fred Bissinger MT|SHRM Legal Advisor and Regional Managing Member of Wimberly Lawson Wright Daves & Jones

Fred's presentation will include a description of GINA and ADAAA regulations as they relate to professionals in the Human Resources world. He will be discussing specific facets of these two statutes that directly relate to how employers should conduct relations with their employees. His extensive knowledge of law will allow him to clearly communicate the importance of each act and how their components fit into the HR perspective. He will also be discussing how these two statutes relate to workers' compensation issues.

Speaker Biography:
FREDRICK J. BISSINGER is Regional Managing Member of the Nashville, Tennessee office of Wimberly Lawson Wright Daves & Jones, which he joined in 1999. His law practice includes an emphasis in employment discrimination and wrongful discharge litigation, ADA and FMLA compliance, workers' compensation, and general liability. He received his Bachelor of Science, cum laude, in Economics from Washington & Lee University and his law degree from the Seton Hall University School of Law. Prior to entering private practice, Fred served in the United States Navy Judge Advocate General Corps from 1993-1997. Fred is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association and the Mid-South Workers' Compensation Association and is the 2012 Legal Advisor for Middle Tennessee Society of Human Resource Management.

Biography:
Kim Vance is a shareholder in the Labor & Employment Department at Baker Donelson's Nashville office. She has more than 20 years of experience representing management in every aspect of labor and employment law. "Kim is unique. She has the mind of a business owner and the intellect of a great lawyer. This combination has benefited our company in very meaningful ways," said Joe Scarlett, Chairman and former CEO at Tractor Supply Company, where Ms. Vance formerly served as General Counsel.

In addition to defending companies in employment litigation, Ms. Vance's practice focuses upon:
• presenting in-house management training programs to reduce employment related legal risks for companies across the nation;
• counseling management clients through auditing human resources policies and practices to reduce legal risks; and
• developing pre-litigation strategies to improve available defenses in preparation for litigation.
She has represented management clients in State and Federal Courts and in defense of administrative proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, State Human Rights Commissions, State Unemployment Commissions, Arbitrators, the National Labor Relations Board and the Department of Labor.
