MT|SHRM Mentor Program 2008/2009
The Middle Tennessee Society for Human Resource Management’s Mentor Program partners a student member of MTSU, TSU or David Lipscomb University’s student chapter with a professional member for the purpose of mutual growth and development as Human Resources professionals. The student members will have the chance to learn through their mentor’s personal experiences in the human resources field. The professional members will provide mentorship to the student members by preparing them and strengthening them to become the next successful leaders in our field.

The Basics
- Program will begin on October 24, 2008 and continue through May 2009.
- Commitment will involve monthly meetings with the students. Additional phone calls, emails and personal contact are encouraged.
- A job shadowing opportunity sometime during the mentor program timeframe is encouraged.
- There will be three group events for mentors and students. The first is the Kick Off/ Training Session on October 24, 2008. The second will be held in February 2008 and will be a professional group event, possibly a roundtable event. The final event will be the recognition event in April or May of 2008.

The Benefits
The largest benefit to this program will be the relationship that develops between the mentors and the mentored students. It is important that students get some exposure to Human Resources in the business world to couple with their theory in the classroom. The mentor program will not only provide some direction for them to focus on a specific area of HR, but it will also give an accurate picture of what to expect when they graduate and enter the work force. It is just as important for the experts in a field to pass their knowledge and experiences on the next generation of professionals. The program will provide an outlet for members of MT-SHRM to share some of their experiences in the HR field.
