Workshops & Continuing Education

Legal Workshops
MT|SHRM is privileged to have employment law attorneys who take an active interest in our members’ professional development and have joined together to provide a forum for keeping members abreast of topics that affect each of us in the workplace.

Workshops have been planned for 2009. Attendance is free to MT|SHRM members and usually $25 for non-members.

Please go to the Calendar for the Legal Workshop dates

Reservations for these workshops are made through our event registration system only and invitations are e-mailed to MT|SHRM members approx. 2 weeks prior to the event.

Special thanks goes to Kara Shea for initiating and coordinating this group as an added benefit to MT|SHRM members.

HRCI Certification Information
Re-Certification - IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Congratulations on becoming certified! When you became certified - whether it was last month, last year or three or more years ago - you demonstrated not only your support of the HR profession, but your professional commitment to excellence in the field. Your journey, however, has just started.

Recertification demonstrates your continued dedication to stay up to date with rapidly changing HR profession. To retain the PHR, SPRH or GPHR designations, HRCI requires all certificants to recertify every three years by accumulating 60 credit hours through continuing education, instruction, on-the-job experience, research and publishing, leadership activities or professional membership in a national HR association. For SPHR certificants, 15 of the 60 hours must be in strategic HR management; for GPHR certificants, 30 hours must be in international HR management. Certificants also have the option of recertifying by exam. HRCI now has an online system for tracking recertification activities.

Your certification cycle begins in the month in which you first become certified, for example if you became certified in December 2006 you be due to recertify three years from that date (December 2009). A recertification application may be submitted online or you may submit a paper application.

When selecting programs you may come across some that have an “Approved- for-Credit” seal from HRCI. While you are not required to have pre-approved programs on your recertification application, it eliminates the guesswork when taking continuing education workshops, conferences, seminars or courses by letting you know that HRCI will accept the credit hours from the program when you include them on your application. Both SHRM National and MT|SHRM offer programs that include the “Approved-for-Credit” seal. You can find out more about these programs by visiting www.shrm.org/education and further down on the Professional Development page of MT|SHRM’s website.
